"And she was filled with the gifts of the Holy Spirit. Gifts to be shared for the sake of the kingdom."

Hello friends of the Church! Greetings! My name is Joslyn Wiebelhaus and I am 23 years old from an amazing Rural Northeast Nebraska community in a small town called Fordyce. I have lived there my whole life until going to college. I just recently graduated from Benedictine College with a degree in Mass Communications and now serving as a full time missionary at Life Teen's Camp Covecrest. It was through my home roots I was blessed to be where I am at today. Coming from a strong Catholic community I was able to have 12 years of Catholic education continuing that on at Benedictine. It wasn't until college though that I heard of Life Teen. A friend who worked summer camp encouraged me to apply because she saw it as a perfect fit for me. After a lot of prayer I applied and by the grace of God, accepted.

I worked at Life Teen Camp Hidden Lake as the camp photographer in the summer of 2015. My job was to serve teens and to capture the beauty of camp through a lens. Some of this included: messy games, high ropes, low ropes, obstacle courses, reconcilation, adoration, and the most rad dance parties. Below is one of my favorite photos I captured from that summer, Adoration during week 2.

When I said goodbye to Nebraska and hello to a new mission it wasn't easy. In fact, I wasn't one of your typical missionaries. I didn't fall in love with camp right away. It took half of my summer to get used to all the new things and accept the mission of Life Teen. It wasn't until week 7 of 13 when one of the summer staffers came and sat down next to me in the All Saints Chapel at Hidden Lake and asked me the simple question, "are you proud of yourself?" I looked at her with anger because she didn't know everything I had been through to that moment. So instead of answering the simple question I blew up in her face. Then it hit me. Instead of her walking away, she just sat there and locked her eyes with me. So she asked the question again - "are you proud of yourself?"

That question changed my life forever. It turned into a 2.5 hour conversation from me being angry, to laughing, crying, and filled with an amount of peace and love I have never felt in my life. In that moment, Life Teen made sense to me.  Why God called me to this mission just thrived from there. I learned why serving the Church is important, loving every person we encounter, and truly giving until we can't anymore. From that day on, I begged the Lord to fill me with every ounce of whatever needed to be poured out to anyone who walked on the grounds of Camp Hidden Lake and boy he did. Through those next 6 weeks I was able to love like I never thought I could, serve, pray, and love. Even though I was the most tired I ever had been in my life, the Lord still gave me joy and peace. Exactly what I asked for. I let him work in my heart and left every piece of my heart in that chapel at Camp Hidden Lake.

Leaving camp led to a lot of leadership opportunities for my senior year of college. Through my role as photographer, I thrived in my skills for my major and directed my first Retreat. Each of these roles helped me become a better person and that love and service only thrived more on how I truly live. As I was approaching graduation I found myself thinking gosh what the heck am I going to do? I applied for many youth ministry jobs back in my home roots and other missionary positions and it wasn't until one day when it was made clear to me that in the time I was introduced to Life Teen it has been the hardest yet most fruitful and happiest time in my life. After that realization I applied for full time missions and said yes.

For those who don't know Life Teen, Life Teen's mission is leading teens closer to Christ. As a full time missionary, we are committing ourselves to a year of doing just that. We will be living in community while growing together through spiritual formation, welcoming Retreat groups to camp, mens and womens Retreats, weekly work projects, leading bible study's, mentoring students, youth group, community outreach, and so much more.

I have never been so ready, but not. And by that I mean it's not going to be easy. In fact, this is probably the biggest thing I am doing in my life thus far. Saying goodbye to Nebraska once again (the place I love and desire to be) but I am so often reminded "I plan, God laughs." Through that quote I have been able to see God work miracles in my life through Life Teen and I am going to do anything I can to share the mission of Life Teen with as many of you as I can.

What can I do to help?

In order for me to be on this mission I am in need of 3 things. Prayer, Partners, and Pass it on.

Prayer: I ask you to join praying for me, my mission team, and to all those we reach out to for the entire year. I will also be happy to take any of your prayer intentions and offer those up during one of our team holy hours during the week.

Partner: My goal is to raise $1250 a month and at least invite 29 people as mission partners. This means:

  • 1 person commiting to $200/month   *  still in need of 1
  • 5 people committing to $100/month  *  number amount full
  • 5 people committing to $50/month    *  number amount full
  • 8 people committing to $25/month    *  still in need of 5
  • 10 people committing to $10/month  *  number amount full

Note: Monthly partners are preferred but one time partners are just as appreciated!

How to give:

Online: This process is 100% tax deductible and can be done securely on this webpage by clicking the big green button below my picture that says Donate. Once you've done that you will receive a confirmation email of your gift and it will notify me the closer I get to my goal.
