When I was a teenager I did not know or understand God or His love for me. After my sister invited me to come to church with her and our neighbor, I eventually became Catholic at the age of sixteen, because of the love and prayers of my youth minister and the core team at our Life Teen parish (Light of Christ in Clearwater, FL). I graduated from Florida State University in 2009 with a bachelor's degree in English and Religion. I am so blessed now to have the opportunity to serve the Church and try to bring Christ to young people who don't know His love!
I have been a Life Teen Missionary for the past three years. I served at Covecrest for my first year of missions (a formation year), then in Atlanta, Georgia for the past two years. I have been so blessed in these three years to be inspired by teenagers and their search and desire for God. As missionaries we help plan and facilitate Life Nights, Edge Nights, Retreats, Summer camps, Discipleship groups, and more. My favorite moments are journeying with teenagers, getting to see each small victory as they discover new things about God, His love, and their Catholic faith. I love watching the huge transformation that happens over time!
I have recently committed to at least two more years as a missionary, to go to Haiti and help start a mission base there.
In February, one of the bishops in Haiti, Bishop Dumas, invited Life Teen to come and be a part of the new evangelization in Haiti. He offered us a place to live and minister from, a place with dorms, meeting rooms, a chapel, a basketball court, and a beach. This place will be called "The John Paul II Center for the New Evangelization".
Our hopes for this mission include helping to start Life Teen in two nearby parishes, ministering to youth in Haiti who often have little both materially and spiritually, and eventually also bringing young people down from America to experience foreign mission trips. We are hoping to leave for Haiti in early October, so please pray for us in this time of preparation.
While I have the blessing to be able to go as a missionary to Haiti, you can also be a part of this mission through your prayers and donations. "Some give by going to the missions. Some go by giving to the missions. Without both, there are no missions." Please take this opportunity to "go by giving." Thank you for your generosity and support!
